How to use the Alor Archive
› Corridor 631 → 715 AD · stable
The Alor Archive is a free, restricted reading room for the world of the Alor Trilogy. Open the dossiers of kings, queens and monks, walk Sindh on a drawn atlas, follow eighty-four years on a timeline, listen to Ladye Od’s mission logs and read short declassified passages. This guide explains every part of it.
Quick start
three stepsTell us how far you have read
On the opening screen, pick Book I, II or III, or Full access. Files beyond that stay sealed.
Step into the reading room
Press Enter the archive. It fills your window, with links home to Nevalor in the top bar.
Begin the case
Press Begin the case instead, and Dr. Samuel Gryffin will guide you through the archive.
Every visit opens on the Clearance screen. The five lines type themselves out, your last clearance is already selected, and Enter takes you straight in. Press Skip, or Esc, to go in at once.
Clearance and sealed files
spoiler-safeThe archive is built for readers in the middle of the books. Your clearance decides which files open; everything beyond it stays sealed, so nothing is spoiled before you reach it.
| Clearance | What opens |
|---|---|
| Clearance I | Files from Book I, Chach: The Rise of a Soul (631–655). |
| Clearance II | Everything up to Book II, Dahar: The Fallen Kingdom (671–687). |
| Clearance III | Everything up to Book III, Kasim: Sands of Conquest (710–715), except the endings. |
| Full access | All 354 files, including the 24 that hold endings and revelations. |
- A sealed file shows only its number, greyed bars and a Sealed stamp.
- To change clearance at any time, press the Clearance button in the header, or click the Alor logo.
- On a sealed file you can choose to unseal that one file. The archive asks you to confirm first, because it may reveal an ending.

what you will seeEvery record opens as a file sheet: its number, title and role, a summary, fact lines typed out like a report, and details such as years, house and the chapter where it first appears. Linked files sit on the right; extracts and the chapters a person appears in sit below.
A red stamp
You have not opened this file yet. It is still waiting to be read.
A green stamp

A grey stamp
The file lies beyond your clearance and stays sealed for now.
- Identity glyphs. Each person has a hexagonal badge with their initials, and each lexicon term a square seal. The pattern is unique to the file.
- Locator. Every place file shows a small map of Sindh with a red ping where the place lies.
- Strips. Events show where they sit between 631 and 715; chapters show their place among all sixty-nine.
- Show all. Long lists show their first entries; press Show all to open the rest.
- The counter. The figure in the header, such as 42 / 354, counts the files you have opened.
The Lens: record and imagination
one buttonThe Alor Trilogy is historical fiction. Some of what you read is history as the record keeps it; some is the life the novels imagine beside it. The words on each stamp tell you which: Record, Imagined, or Record · Imagined life for real figures given imagined lives.
| Lens | What it does |
|---|---|
| Lens: All | Shows everything at full strength. |
| Lens: Record | Fades what the novels imagine, so the historical record stands out. |
| Lens: Imagination | Fades the record, so the novels’ own world stands out. |
Listening, logs and extracts
read aloudAny file, read aloud
Press the play button under a title. The paragraph being read glows, and the page follows the voice. Pause, resume or stop at any time.
Mission logs
Ladye’s own recordings type themselves out in green on a dark terminal. Press Play recording to hear them in a voice of their own.
Declassified extracts are short passages from the novels, each two hundred and fifty words or fewer. The full books are not held in the archive. The voice is your browser’s own, so it differs from device to device.
The case: a game with Dr. Gryffin
optionalChoose Begin the case on the Clearance screen, or press the Case button in the header, and a secure channel opens in the corner. Dr. Samuel Gryffin, mission leader of ARUNA-3 in 2080, needs a rookie to recover Ladye Od’s records before they are lost. He asks your name or call sign, then steps back and pings you when he has something.
The case follows the trilogy chapter by chapter. Only Chapter 1 is open at first: its story, the people and places it introduces, its words, events, extracts and mission logs. Recover every file of a chapter and the next one comes through, so you travel with Ladye through all sixty-nine chapters, side by side with the novels.
› Channel open. Can you hear me?
› Every file you open locks one in place. Every file we lose is a part of her life gone.

■ AUTOMATED · Link to ARUNA-3 Control lost.
- Training. Ten objectives teach every part of the archive, one at a time. What you need to press glows softly green. Hint helps if you are stuck.
- Chapters. After training, each chapter is your objective. The panel shows how many of its files you have recovered; as it completes, Gryffin hands you a hint of what the next chapter holds, and it unseals. Files from later chapters stay sealed and show which chapter opens them.
- Clearance pauses. While the case runs, the chapter you have reached decides what opens, not your clearance. To browse freely, choose Browse without the case on the opening screen; the case pauses, and files opened that way do not count towards it.
- Corridor Integrity. Your recovery, from 0 to 100%. Stay away for days and it drifts down a little; new files win it back.
- Priority fragments. Now and then a red countdown appears at the top. Open the named file before it reaches zero.
- The intruder. Somebody else is reaching into the corridor. Watch the Intrusion bar and keep recovering to push it back.
- The window. ♪ turns voices on or off, ☰ lists training and every chapter, – shrinks it to a small pill, × pauses the case.
It is a story. The intruder, hacking alerts, breaches, countdowns, lost signals and screen disturbances are all part of the game. Nothing real is happening to your device, your data or this website. Reach 100% and the case closes with a certificate in your name.

Questions
tap to openCan I read the whole trilogy in the archive?
No. The archive holds records, summaries and short extracts only. The books themselves are available from the Nevalor Store.
Is everything in the archive historical fact?
No. It presents the world of the novels. Use the Lens and the stamps to tell the historical record from what the novels imagine.
Why are some files sealed?
They hold events beyond the book you have reached. Raise your clearance when you get there, or unseal a single file if you accept the spoiler. During the case, files open chapter by chapter instead.
My progress has disappeared. Why?
Progress lives in your browser. Clearing browser data, a private window, a different browser or device, or Reset will start you afresh.
I hear no voice. What can I do?
Check that your device is not muted and that ♪ is lit in the case window. Some browsers need one click on the page before they will speak.
